The Metropolitan Museum of Art, also known as the Met, is the largest art museum in the United States. The museum was established on April 13, 1870. At the time of establishment, the museum only existed on paper. Throughout the next ten years, its Board of Trustees raised funds, gained artworks, and began hosting exhibitions in rented spaces. On March 30, 1880, the museum finally opened at its present location, and over the years, various additions to the original building were made. The museum currently has seventeen permanent collections, and hosts various other exhibitions throughout the year. These collections include arms and armor, Asian art, Egyptian Art, The American Wing, musical instruments, and more. The museum opens at 10am and closes at 5:30pm on Sunday – Thursday and 9pm on Fridays and Saturdays. Admission to the Met is pay what you wish, but the recommended amount is $25 for adults.
